Recipe:
Ingredients for Chili
500g Ground Beef
500g Ground Pork
1 can Red Kidney Beans
1 can White Kidney Beans
1 can Black Beans
1 Can of Corn
1 Can diced tomatoes
2 Apples (Cut into small cubes, add to chili right before serving)
750ml Hard Cider (reduced on stove until between 200-250ml remain)
2 Onions (diced)
2 tsp Paprika (I prefer smoked paprika)
1 tbsp Chili Powder
1 tsp Cumin
1 tsp Cinnamon (with apples)
3 Cloves of Garlic
Salt & Pepper to taste
Ingredients for Dumplings
1 cup Flour
2 tsp Baking Powder
½ tsp Dried Parsley
½ tsp cinnamon
½ tsp Salt
½ cup Milk
1 egg
Procedure:
Saute onions, and garlic in butter, add the meat and cook until completely browned, add all the remaining ingredients into a crock pot, except for apples, stir well, cover and cook on high for 1-1.5 hours. Once done; add apples and cinnamon to crock pot and start preparing dumplings by combining all the dry ingredients in a mixing bowl, then add the egg and milk. Stir till lumpy, drop by rounded spoonful onto chili (must be simmering). Cook uncovered for 10 minutes on low heat, cover and cook until dumplings are dry (around 10 minutes or so)
Serve chili hot, with a dumpling and top with cheese or parsley, and enjoy!
